Best Upcoming Fall Anime
Welcome, Fantasy Nerds! With some awesome anime coming this fall, we decided to do another post on the ones we’re most looking forward to! There are some returning favorites on this list as well as some brand new ones we’re excited to see. We hope you find this list helpful.
Arcane (Season 2) – Netflix
This was a favorite for both of us when the first season aired in 2021. After three very long years, Arcane will return with season 2 on November 9th, and we couldn’t be more excited! If you haven’t seen the first season we highly recommend you check it out, especially if you’ve played League of Legends, the game this anime was based on.
The animation/art style of Arcane is incredible and the story absolutely sucks you in! The first season mainly followed Vi and Jynx, and is a sort of back-story on how Jynx became who she is in League of Legends, but is also intertwined with many other story lines that do translate into the game, but if you’ve never played that is perfectly okay, you don’t need to to enjoy this amazing show!
Blue Lock (Season 2) – Crunchyroll
The highly anticipated season 2 of Blue Lock will air on October 5th of this year! Blue Lock may revolve around soccer, but it’s so much more than that. With interesting character relationships, development, and the very high stakes scenario they are all forced into makes for an anime that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and feeling a lot of emotions for the characters you grow to love and hate. Even if you’re not the biggest fan of sports anime, we highly recommend checking this one out!
The Do-Over Damsel Conquers the Dragon Emperor – Crunchyroll
Our first impression of this new anime is that it seemed to have a similar premise to 7th Time Loop, which is one that Clever enjoyed from earlier this year. (You can read more about it in our AniMay post). In both animes, the main character finds herself married to an enemy from her former life and sees this as an opportunity to avert a terrible future. However, Do-Over Damsel seems to have a comedy vibe, whereas 7th Time Loop was more focused on drama and political intrigue. One aspect that has us interested in this new anime, despite others with a similar premise, is the inclusion of dragons!
Goodbye, Dragon Life – Crunchyroll
Speaking of dragons, this new anime features a powerful dragon reborn as a human in a small village. How will such a divine being adjust to just living life on the regular? We expect there will be more adventures in store for the former dragon. We were intrigued by the premise and look forward to seeing what this anime brings. Goodbye, Dragon Life seems like a cute adventure anime with a fantasy twist.
Dandadan – Netflix & Crunchyroll
We thought this anime had a fun premise that fantasy and sci-fi fans would both love. Two friends, one who believes in ghosts and the other aliens, challenge each other to visit sites rumored to be haunted by these creatures. They both end up face-to-face with the paranormal beings they expressed disbelief in, proving they both were right…and wrong. This original anime already has people talking, and we look forward to checking it out in October!
Uzumaki – Max
If you’re a horror fan, this upcoming anime is for you! Uzumaki, which was first a manga by Junji Ito, is sure to be a hit. You may recall I have mentioned Junji Ito before on our Best Manga for Fantasy Nerds post. His unique art style is renowned, it is unnerving, intricate, and quite horrifying at times. Uzumaki is about a small town in Japan plagued by supernatural curses. It will be released in exactly a week on September 29th, and you can watch it on Max. I am so excited for this anime, and will certainly be watching!
Shangri-La Frontier (Season 2) – Crunchyroll
If you are a gamer, this is the anime we recommend for you! It is a VR MMO that’s super focused on the game aspect. It involves real things gamers experience, like lots of grinding, that will have all gamers able to relate.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 – Hulu
We’re giving Bleach an honorable mention here because, while there is a lot of hype around the return of its finale arc, it’s not an anime we’ve had a chance to watch yet. However, Clever’s husband has watched all of the many seasons and assures us it is an anime to look forward to. Bleach is packed full of action, adventure, and lore that Fantasy Nerds are sure to love.
What Do You Think?
