Best Houses of Halloween Horror Nights

This time of year we normally post about our adventures at Halloween Horror Nights. However, we weren’t able to attend this year, so we decided to make a list of our favorite houses from the years we did attend the event. We thought it would be fun to revisit these terrifying memories for Halloween!

2013

La Llorona

This house was terrifying, and I still remember it clearly even though this is the first year I ever went to Halloween Horror Nights! La Llorona has always scared me since I was little and I first heard the legend. The best part of this house was they had a real person dressed as La Llorna swing down from above sweeping over everyone in the house, it was so scary! I remember everyone ducking and screaming, that part of the house lives in my head to this day, which is why it’s on this list!

The Cabin in the Woods

This is my favorite HHN house of all time! It was so well done and absolutely terrifying. The best part was the elevators, if you’ve seen Cabin in the Woods you know exactly what I’m referencing. In the house, you have to walk through a hallway of elevators in darkness with occasional flashing lights when suddenly the elevator doors open and all the monsters are unleashed at you!

Here is an amazing video walk-through of the house!

The Walking Dead: No Safe Haven

This house was incredible! It truly felt like you were in The Walking Dead universe. My favorite part was they had a soldier screaming at you to go, go, go! Then you had to crawl on all fours through a fenced-off tunnel where zombies were on top and both sides trying to get to you, it really pushed a sense of fear and urgency!

2021

Beetlejuice

We just loved the theme of this house and how well done the characters and scenes were. It was more nostalgic than scary, mostly because we loved watching Beetlejuice. It had just the right mix of scares, humor, and trippy vibes that we’d expect from a Beetlejuice house.

Case Files Unearthed: Legendary Truth

This house had an interesting theme that featured a private investigator who dealt with cases involving the paranormal. It was done in a noir setting which we thought was unique and interesting. We liked how you follow the detective throughout different scenes as he encounters various monsters and finds clues.

2022

Dead Man’s Pier: Winter’s Wake

This house caught us by surprise and became one of our favorites. The setting was incredible, and it felt like walking through a story. It perfectly evoked a seaside town in the midst of a storm. The crashed boat and howling wind set the tone. The undead pirates and glowing spirits, that seemingly lured their boat to crash, made terrifying monsters. This house is definitely one to see!

The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare

The Weekend house was so awesome! While waiting in line they were playing The Weekend songs like Tears For Another Day, Blinding Lights, etc while also playing the music videos on a giant screen. One part of the house had the mirrors like his super bowl half-time show, and at the end, there was a room full of roughly twenty Weekends in white suits with plastic surgery bandages, it was difficult to tell which ones were real people until they popped out at you. It was terrifying!

Spirits of the Coven

While not the scariest house, this one made our list solely for the theme. The house was a 1920’s speakeasy that was taken over by witches. It perfectly captured the speakeasy vibe, with a back-alley entrance and someone jumping out to ask you for the password. Once inside, things turned more sinister. The witches were casting spells and trying to poison you! Details like glowing runes and tarot cards filled the house. The element of the witches invoking their magic curses was what made this house stand out.

2023

Dueling Dragons

Dueling Dragons was a house we knew we had to visit from the moment we heard about it. In this house, there was a mage battle going on around you as you walked through! Near the end, you picked a mage to follow and see their fate, when walking in there was a huge castle and the two mages had their spell books on display, and each path was lit up with their corresponding colors. Visually this house was astounding!

Blood Moon: Dark Offerings

The house we all agreed was the scariest this year was Blood Moon: Dark Offerings. The theme was a cult mid their blood moon rituals, including sacrifices. The scariest part was walking through seemingly church pews, and seated were roughly a dozen hooded cultist members with a disturbing scene on display. You walked between two sides of the pews and didn’t know which cult members would pop out at you, it was terrifying!
