Best Holiday Movies for Fantasy Nerds

Greetings Fantasy Nerds and happy December! Just in time for the holidays, this week we bring you some Christmas movies set in a more fantasy world than your typical holiday movies. For our fantasy lovers, we hope you find a new film to check out this season!

Polar Express

This Christmas classic is a favorite of Clever’s because it has a great theme: Believe. It’s all about never outgrowing the magic of Christmas, which we think is something all Fantasy Nerds can get behind. Plus, it’s the perfect movie with a cup of hot chocolate!

Nightmare Before Christmas

A classic and beloved tale of the spirit of Christmas intertwined with the world of Halloween! This is one of WTF’s favorite Christmas movies and a well-known film in general. If you love Halloween this is the perfect film to watch during Christmas to keep to that spooky season feeling!

Krampus

Krampus is more on the horror side of things, but fear not! This is still a tale of the spirit of Christmas, or lack thereof, and is quite comical as well. We enjoyed this movie quite a bit, and with a strong cast of well-known actors, it does not disappoint!

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

This Christmas movie is worth a watch just for the beautiful and magical settings. Not to mention the dancing and music from the well-known ballet. It was a wonderfully done take on the classic Nutcracker story, with a world that Fantasy Nerds are sure to love.

The Christmas Dragon

Dragons and Christmas? What more does a fantasy nerd need during the holidays? This is family-friendly, and a heartwarming tale of Christmas intertwined with the fantasy genre we know and love.

Journey to the Christmas Star

This is a Norwegian film, but it is dubbed in English, so the mouth movements of the actors may seem a little off, but this does not take away from the film. Especially for little ones, who probably won’t sit still to read subtitles, so if you can get past this it’s totally worth a watch. The atmosphere, the costumes, and the fantasy feel of it all are incredible!

The Knight Before Christmas

If you’re looking for a Hallmark-style rom-com with a fantasy twist, this is the movie for you. While only a portion of the movie takes place in a fantasy setting, the premise is one that Fantasy Nerds will enjoy. A medieval knight gets transported to the future by a witch, where he must fulfill a quest to get home. The knight is both charming and amusing, as he struggles to grasp all the changes that modern society holds.

What do you think of our list? Are you going to watch any of these? What would you add to this list? Let us know in the comments below!
