Best Writing Tools For Fantasy Nerds

Welcome Fantasy Nerds! This week we will be discussing our favorite writing tools. Writing tools can be anything from a physical item you use for writing, or steps you take to focus on your writing, continue reading for our favorites!

Bullet Journals

On our recent writing retreat, Clever gifted me with an Archer & Olive bullet journal that matches her own, and it has quickly become an important part of our writing routines. Bullet journals are fantastic because they are so customizable and creative! For my journal, I have pages like goal setting, marketing strategies, story ideas, and a calendar. Creating these pages isn’t just fun, it helps you focus, and be organized!

Quality Pen Set

With bullet journals, or if you like the write by hand, a quality pen set is imperative. I enjoy fun colors and glitter, so gel pens are my go-to! I think it’s also important to mention here highlighters, sticky notes, and white-outs; good friends to writers.

WTF’s Favorite – Gelly Roll Gel Pens in Stardust.

Clever’s Favorite – Calliograph Gel Pens by Archer & Olive and Writer’s Duo by OOLY.

Websites/Tech Tools

There are a few websites and online tools we utilize for our writing. Fantasy Name Generator is a site we frequent when we are feeling at a loss for what to name some of our characters. Grammarly is another great tool, it’s free to use and automatically corrects your grammar, and gives you suggestions for better wording if need be, which saves us a lot of time and stress when editing!

Stickers

We love stickers! Especially for use with our bullet journals. Some of our favorites for writing are word count tracker, motivational, and fantasy-themed stickers. You can use stickers in journals, calendars, or even as reminder notes wherever you write. A great site we return to for stickers is Pipsticks!

Inspiration

One of the best tools out there is what inspires you to write. This could be your favorite spot to write, walking through nature or tangible things like writing prompt books! I love to sit on my patio when it rains, listening to the pitter-patter of the droplets, feeling the mist on my skin, and taking deep inhales of the pure air. This helps to clear my mind to focus on my writing. Whatever inspires you is a wonderful tool!
