Writing Quotes to Inspire and Motivate You

Welcome, Writers! Today we thought we would share some of our favorite quotes about writing, and why we like them. We could all use some motivation and inspiration every once in a while. We hope these quotes are helpful to you!

Read a Lot

If you’re a writer, it’s certain that you read a hefty amount of books as well. Reading helps to motivate, learn, and grow into a better writer yourself. I believe they go hand in hand with becoming the best writer you can be. If you’re in a rut with your writing, try taking some time to read a book; it can be incredibly helpful!

Words are Magic

I love the idea of words being magic. They can craft worlds and weave universal truths into a story. They can make us feel less alone through the shared emotions and experiences of a favorite character. This is the power of writing. This reminder is motivating because it reminds us that our words, and our stories, matter.

The Importance of Truth

I adore this quote. Being vulnerable can be difficult, but that is what brings out your best writing. Writing based on your experiences, your beliefs, and your emotions are powerful. Just like in the real world, not everyone will like you and you cannot please every person, but don’t ever let that stop you from being yourself.

When You Can’t See Ahead

This quote is so relatable to me. It validates my writing process, as a pantser. I often don’t know entirely where a story will lead, as I’m writing. I just keep moving with what I can envision, and I’ll usually figure it out that way.

You Can’t Edit a Blank Page

This quote resonates with all writers I believe. It can be difficult to get past a block, but just putting down words and making any effort is better than not at all. You can always go back to what you have already written, change it, or even better gain ideas and branch off of it, even if you think it’s not your best work. Keep moving forward!

One Word in Front of the Other

Somehow, this seemingly incongruous statement makes complete sense to a writer. It is both motivating, in the sense that all we have to do is sit down and keep writing, and validating, in the acknowledgment that doing so can be difficult at times. Make sure to have some grace with yourself, and keep going.
