Best Songs to Inspire Writers to Go After Your Dreams

Welcome, Writers! Listening to some inspiring songs inspired this post, so we decided to share with you our favorite songs to motivate you during the times when chasing the author dream gets difficult. We hope you enjoy these songs!

“Daydream” by Lily Meola

Clever first heard this song on America’s Got Talent and immediately shared it with WTF. We’ve both added it to our Spotify and have listened to it repeatedly since. It hit us both in the heart and reminded us that being nervous or afraid doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go after your dreams. A couple of the lines that really resonated with as are these:

We all got these big ideas

One day they’re replaced with fears

All these things we say we’ll get to

Shot down by the reasons not to

Ultimately, these lines remind us to make time and space for our dreams and stop making excuses. We still get goosebumps every time we listen to this song, especially the chorus in the clip above. It makes us want to go after all our biggest, best-selling author dreams!

“You’re On Your Own, Kid” by Taylor Swift

If you know us, you know that we are both huge Taylor Swift fans, so we had to include one of her songs on this list. Starting out, you may think this song is the opposite of inspirational, as Taylor talks about all the difficulties and heartbreak she faced in going after her dreams. However, it’s the end of the song that reveals the truth: it was all worth it.

Specifically, the following lines in the ending verse flip the meaning of the song:

‘Cause there were pages turned with the bridges burned
Everything you lose is a step you take
So make the friendship bracelets
Take the moment and taste it
You’ve got no reason to be afraid

Then, when she brings it back to the title line, “You’re On Your Own, Kid” takes on a new meaning as an empowering statement.

You’re on your own, kid
Yeah, you can face this
You’re on your own, kid
You always have been

You now come to realize that you have overcome all the obstacles you’ve faced on your own, and you can handle whatever is thrown at you. This song is a realistic and powerful look at what it takes to make your dreams come true but still urges you to keep turning pages and striving toward what you want.

“There’ll Never by Another Tonight” by Red Two

Red Two is an awesome band that we both love, and this song is one of our favorites. It reminds us that we don’t know how many opportunities we will have, so we should take each chance we are given. Particularly this line always kicks our butts into gear:

Let it roll, let it roll

Cause you never know

If it’s your final song

At your last show

The clip you can listen to above also has some inspirational lines:

Just breathe and believe

That you’re gonna make it

Let yourself

Go out and take it

The song reminds us to be present, have confidence in our abilities, and not let our lives go by without seizing our dreams!

“Gretel” by Alex G

Something I love about Alex G, the songs are melodic, beautiful, and haunting, and the lyrics pack a punch.

I don’t wanna go back

Nobody’s gonna push me off track

I see what they do

Good people got something to lose

These lyrics hit hard for me, I don’t want to go back to how difficult things were before. You can’t let anyone push you off track when it comes to your goals, dreams, and what you want to achieve in your life.

Nobody’s gonna push me off track

I don’t wanna be this

Good people gotta fight to exist

I can see it right there right in front of me

There can be a lot to unpack with these song lyrics, and I think the meaning can be interpreted in a lot of different ways. You have to fight for your goals, you have to envision them. Don’t let anyone hold you back!

“Boss Bitch” by Doja Cat

Yes, this song is on this list. Sometimes you need a song that brings out that boss bitch energy. Revel in that confidence, because you should be confident in everything that you do!

Big up yourself ’cause you know they don’t
I chew, chew, chew ’cause they hope I choke

No one will build you up except for yourself. No one can achieve your dreams, you have to do it. People like to tear down others who succeed, especially when they let their dreams wilt away.

I’m a bitch, I’m a boss
I’m a bitch and a boss, I’ma shine like gloss
I’m a bitch, I’m a boss
I’m a bitch and a boss, I’ma shine like gloss

Just remember to have confidence in yourself and what you’re trying to achieve, it’s key! You’re a boss bitch, don’t ever forget.

“Easy Easy” by King Krule

I adore this song, and I love the live version even more so I decided to link it. It’s a song I find myself listening to when I am feeling pretty down about myself and what I am working on. It really lights a fire in me, maybe it will do the same for you.

And with your dead-end job
That’s been eating away your life
You feel a little inside
The trouble and strife

I think most people can relate to this part of the song, you feel stuck in a job that’s not what you’d like to be doing with your life. It eats you up, and day by day it gets worse, especially if you’re not making strides toward your goals.

When positivity seems hard to reach
I keep my head down and my mouth shut
‘Cause if you going through hell
We just keep going

This part of the song live gives me goosebumps every single time I listen to it. Life is difficult, there is no doubt about that, but you keep going. You keep pushing no matter what and make your dreams a reality.

We hope you enjoyed our post this week! Hopefully, you find some new songs to listen to and maybe they can help motivate you the way they motivate us. What are your favorite songs to listen to when you need that motivation? Let us know in the comments below!
